Alumni Services, a global digital transformation consulting firm, turned to Synthesis to help their client, a prestigious golf club in Hong Kong, utilise the power of private cloud to provide secure, scalable compute and storage. It has provided the foundation to host ERP, CRM, web and workflow solutions serving tens of thousands of users throughout Asia and the world.
The club sought to provide richer digital experiences to a sophisticated public and its members. This meant undertaking a significant digital transformation as the legacy environment was no longer capable of fulfilling the expectations of customers or staff.
The target state demanded the migration from legacy CPE hosted solutions, and integrating five vendors to provide a seamless end to end mobile and web experience for users. Crucially, the platform would be central to new ways of working for staff across multiple sites and helping with the digitalisation of services, thereby providing 24×7 access to and hosting critical infrastructure.
To fulfil this vision, the club placed a premium on having a secure Cloud environment which could scale based on demand, but it didn’t have the skills necessary. The diverse number of vendors providing off the shelf and bespoke solutions also meant it was crucial to have a stable production environment, complimented by easily deployable UAT and staging infrastructure.
Synthesis’ specialist architects led the design and build out of a control tower environment to cater for the scale and security concerns which were connected to its on-premise environment. AWS Control Tower provides the easiest way to set up and govern a secure, multi-account AWS environment, called a landing zone.
The environment had shared storage as well as a secure way to access web pages that were only for employee use.
The environment is locked down so that only employees can access the servers and the public have access to appropriate functionalities.
The AWS cloud infrastructure now sits at the centre of how the club operates. The cloud platform serves up hundreds of thousands of booking and customer requests per week and serves up real-time content to both mobile and web services.
“Over the last 15 years, users have become experts in timing when they engage the club. With hundreds of people concurrently making bookings, its critical that the platform can handle peak demand without the need for costly computing and storage in other times.
The solution implemented by Synthesis has done this flawlessly” says Alumni Services’ Head of Hong Kong Patrick Kirby. “The team at Synthesis have delivered a secure, lower operating cost environment with the additional benefit that we have seen a significant improvement in web responsiveness, compute platform stability and community engagement”
“As data flows between a litany of vendor, it is also wonderful to have the peace of mind that the robust design keeps data safe”
