2018 Year in Review
A look back at the events that occurred in 2018 at Synthesis. From the annual hackathons to an office nerf war, 2018 had many memorable moments.
In 2018, Synthesis also moved to a new larger office in Melrose Arch and hosted a AWS Breakfast session for our financial services clients. The Synthesis team participated in several hackathons, and the winning teams were rewarded with an advanced driving course.
The team spent Mandela Day giving back to the community by painting several classrooms and laying down carpet at Afrika Tikkun.

2019 Year in Review
A look back at a jam packed 2019 at Synthesis, from the incentive trip to the Portuguese Island aboard the MSC Musica to the annual hackathon among many others.
Tom Wells spoke at DevConf about streaming architectures, Michael Shapiro & Jared Naude spoke at the IT Web Cloud Summit about the cloud journey and how to craft a cloud security strategy. Synthesis participated in the AWS Cape Town Summit and AWS Loft where Darren Bak presented on how to setup the cloud business office. We attended Amazon re:Mars and AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas.
To end off the year, we had a great cowboy themed year end function.

AWS Summit Cape Town 2019
Synthesis were gold sponsors at the 2019 AWS Summit in Cape Town held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The event kicked off with a keynote address by Peter DeSantis who spoke about the importance of choosing the right cloud provider as well as the upcoming region in Cape Town. TymeBank, Old Mutual and the University of Pretoria also spoke about how they are using AWS internally to solve business problems.
Synthesis’s CDO Tom Wells, kicked off a session with Standard Bank about real time personalization. Synthesis also participated in the DeepRacer event that was held at the summit
MSC Musica Cruise | Durban to Portuguese Island
The Synthesis team were rewarded with an incentive trip to the Portuguese Island aboard the MSC Musica after hitting the annual financial year end target of the company.
After an early morning start, the team headed to Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport to fly to Durban’s King Shaka Airport. Upon landing, the team grabbed a muffin and coffee before heading to the harbor to board the MSC Musica.
Over the weekend, the team had a great time on both the ship and the Portuguese Island with the all the activities the ship and island had to offer.
